Title: Digital Project Student Assistant
Pay Rate: Intermediate
General Description:
Looking for a diligent student to assist with digital projects for the University Library. This position will include assisting with digital production and post-processing of text, audio and video material. Preference for a student with some skills and experience with one or more software programs involving digital capture (Photoshop, Acrobat, Audacity, Premier Pro, etc.). A high level of attention to detail will be needed to assure quality of digital materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with reformatting analog materials into digital formats, using various scanning and capture equipment (flatbed scanner, overhead scanner, digital SLR, etc.). This primarily includes text, audio, and video.
- Perform post-production as needed (cropping, deskewing, OCR, etc.)
- Run quality assurance on scanned material to ensure accuracy
- Work with other units as needed, such as Reserves and ILL, on digital capture requests
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Digital Projects Librarian
Required Qualifications:
- Is trustworthy and reliable
- Possesses basic familiarity and strong desire to further knowledge in:
- Operation of multimedia hardware, such as scanners, video and still cameras, video and audio playback and recording devices
- Operation of basic multimedia software on Windows and Mac platforms, including but not limited to: Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, Audacity, audio and video format conversion tools, etc.
- Operation of Microsoft Office software, such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel and their application in multimedia, as well as Google Drive
- Capable of troubleshooting software and hardware issues
- Demonstrates ability to follow step-by-step directions and retain information
- Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills, patience and the ability to work well with others
- Exhibits motivation and enthusiasm for learning new technologies and skills, then re-learn as necessary
- Capable of assuming responsibility and works well without supervision
- Able to carry out assigned duties and projects to their completion or resolution
- Self-motivation to follow the letter and spirit of this job description
Preferred Qualifications
- Available to work evening, weekend and intersession hours
- Possesses working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Acrobat
