The SMS Provides 3 Levels of Project Support for Students...

Besides providing students with a great place to work and free access to multimedia and digital video computer systems and software, the SMS provides support for students working on presentation project assignments several ways.

On-Line Tutorials

If you're just trying to find what tool is needed to do one specific thing, first, try using the "Help" search engine and tutorials available with the software you're using.  Many "newbies" don't know about or use this resource as a quick aid for searching and finding answers to common questions. You might find that your question can be answered simply by typing in what you want to do into the software's "help" search window.

If you need a more complete, step-by-step guide for an entire presentation project assignment, you can try one of the many On-Line TUTORIALS provided on this website.  These tutorials are generally geared to the types of presentation projects being assigned by instructors at Kent State.  They are easy to follow, step-by-step guides that can walk you through the entire project, provide important trouble-shooting tips and, most importantly, save you a trip to the library.

"On-Call" Support:

For those students who only need a little nudge to get going, the SMS has Multimedia Consultants available to help you.  You don't need an appointment.... just come in.

Because there are literally thousands of students using the SMS lab every semester, consultants generally will not have the time to sit with you throughout the entire production process but they can get you started on the right track then check back periodically to see how you're doing or help you solve specific problems you might be having with the software or hardware.

"By Appointment" Support:

If you've tried the software's "Help" files and our On-line Tutorials and still can't find what you need or you feel that you need more help than a consultant can provide in a few minutes then you should consider making an appointment with the SMS Manager for more in-depth one-on-one help.

When contacting us for an appointment by email, briefly describe the project and provide us with your professor's name and course.  We know many of the professors and may be able to help you better if we know the professor/course assigning your project.  To save time, also give us a couple of days/times you are available to meet with us.   We'll get back to you to confirm an appointment as soon as possible.
