Student Employee Job Description

Title: Special Collections and Archives 1

Pay Rate: Entry

General Description:

This position provides general operational support for the Department of Special Collections and Archives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs basic office tasks such as photocopying, sorting, typing and labeling
  2. Files, shelves and retrieves collection materials
  3. Assists with collection maintenance projects
  4. Completes simple archival processing projects
  5. Applies basic preservation procedures for books and archival materials
  6. May be asked to staff reading room desk including greeting visitors and researchers and implementing protocols for paging on-call professional staff

Required Qualifications:

  1. Computer literacy, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  2. Bending, lifting and carrying boxes and other materials are routinely required
  3. Must work during normal departmental hours with a staff member present

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Position is open only to undergraduate students

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Library Environment

  1. May be exposed to dirt and dust
  2. May requires use of video display terminal
  3. Requires light physical effort (e.g., stooping, bending and lifting)
