Title: Acquisitions 1

Pay Rate: Entry

General Description:

Performs basic library activities. Assists with basic bindery functions. Provides physical processing for materials in all formats, including complex audio-visual processing. Assists with various mailroom duties, as needed. Supports Acquisitions Department projects by using a variety of software packages and by performing various office duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists with preparing and receiving bindery shipments
  2. Performs minimal in-house book repairs
  3. Creates phase boxes for brittle books as part of bindery duties
  4. Opens and sorts incoming serials mail (open envelopes, plastic wrappers and boxes of journals)
  5. Helps in the mailroom one or two days per week, as needed
  6. Performs physical processing to all formats of library materials
  7. Updates KentLINK records based on information received in monthly lists
  8. Works on special projects, as needed Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  1. Computer literacy, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  2. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel Basic office skills
  3. Able to follow and apply detailed instructions
  4. Able to remember complicated procedures for different kinds of material
  5. Able to work independently
  6. Able to sit and use computer for extended periods
  7. Able to stand for hours on days when working in the mailroom
  8. Able to use sharp instruments, such as knives, scissors and paper cutters with safety in mind
  9. Able to work during semesters between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Related library experience
  2. Experience with the Innovative Interfaces software

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Library environment

  1. May be exposed to dirt and dust
  2. May require frequent use of video display terminal
  3. May require light physical effort (e.g., stooping, bending and lifting)
