Title: Communications Office Assistant

Pay Rate: Entry

General Description:

To assist the communications team with the promotion and execution of events, programs and services for University Libraries through strong writing, verbal and organizational skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Professionally represent the Libraries to internal and external community members
  2. Assist the communications director in generating publicity for programs/events through press releases and miscellaneous PR strategies
  3. Draft human interest stories, as assigned, as well as compose announcements and publicity content on University Libraries’ services, events, activities, personnel and associated groups for newsletters, social media and additional marketing media
  4. Assist the event coordinator with tasks, such as setting up and tearing down events, including arranging furniture, signage, decorations, etc.
  5. Assist event coordinator with coordinating giveaways, food items, room arrangement, invitations and receiving event attendees
  6. Assist with invitation lists, databases and other administrative duties
  7. Assist with department’s inventory items, as well as loading and unloading of event food and supplies
  8. Available to work 10-15 hours a week during fall and spring semesters
  9. Ability to cooperatively work with other student employees and Library faculty and staff
  10. Assist with various administrative tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
  2. Solid computer skills are necessary, mostly Microsoft Office software products
  3. Ability to meet deadlines and excellent time management skills
  4. Ability and desire to work with the public
  5. Ability to work in a team-oriented work environment
  6. Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Available to fill position for at least two semesters
  2. Academic interest in journalism, communications, marketing, hospitality, event planning or related field
  3. Business casual attire to work events
