OhioLINK Courier Announcement

Dear Kent State Students, Staff and Faculty,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the state of Ohio will be transitioning to a new courier service for book deliveries between Ohio colleges and universities.

This transition will require a pause in statewide print lending.

Requests for print materials through the OhioLINK Central Catalog will pause on Friday, March 11, 2022.

Kent State University will host the kickoff event for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read Northeast Ohio, a community reading program celebrating “An American Sunrise” by Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, the first Native American poet laureate of the United States. The kickoff event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 12, beginning promptly at 7 p.m. in the KSU Kiva, located in the Student Center, 800 E. Summit Street, Kent, Ohio. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is appreciated.

Kent State University is one of 61 organizations nationwide – and one of four organizations in Ohio – to be awarded a 2021-2022 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read grant. The university’s $20,000 grant will support the Big Read Northeast Ohio, a community reading program and related events focusing on “An American Sunrise” by Poet Laureate Joy Harjo from October 2021 through May 2022. Harjo, the first Native American poet laureate of the United States, will visit Kent State in March 2022 for a keynote event and book reading.

Thanks to the renewal of their key funding grant, LaunchNET Kent State will continue to
inspire the entrepreneur mindset and support innovative thinkers across the Kent State
University community. Burton D. Morgan Foundation announced an award of up to
$350,000 will be granted to support the LaunchNET initiative at Kent State University
through June 2023.

To celebrate Constitution Day, Kent State University Libraries is offering a virtual screening of the documentary And She Could Be Next. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion that will include the filmmakers, Grace Lee, Marjan Safinia and Jyoti Sarda, as well as Kent State faculty members Denise Harrison, Joycelyn Harrison, Ph.D. and Janine Tiffe, Ph.D. This film provides a great opportunity to not only explore our democracy, but also to underscore the importance of voting.
