University Libraries’ new Course Reading List Tool unlocks an array of features that will improve your course efficiency and help your students succeed! In Spring 2027, the tool will replace Ares, the current Course Reserves platform. Fall courses are strongly encouraged to use the new Course Reading List Tool.

Available now through Canvas, the software supports academic engagement by seamlessly integrating with library resources, allowing you to:

• fully leverage the library collection and our subscriptions to enhance learning affordability
• create dynamic lists of citations from a range of sources - print or electronic books and journals, streaming video, websites, textbooks and more
• easily update content and reuse elements or duplicate whole lists for other courses
• comply with applicable copyright policies
• select collaborators to edit and manage lists
• import your reading list from Simple Syllabus to create your list in minutes

New Course Reading List Tool Sessions for Instructors

Learn more about the new Course Reading List tool through a live Teams demonstration offered by University Libraries. Register for a one-hour session (limited to 10 participants each) in which we will demonstrate the new Course Reading List Tool. Participants may watch and learn or use the demonstration as a working session by practicing with examples from their courses.

Activate the Course Reading List option in Canvas through the following steps:

• Under Settings, choose Navigation. Add Course Reading List into the active sections.
• Open the Course Reading List and use the “Add” button (upper left) to open the search interface. Search by full citations or book or article titles.
