University Libraries Collection Development Practices

The mission of University Libraries (UL) is to facilitate engagement with our resources, spaces, and services to promote success, encourage curiosity, reduce barriers, and foster connections across disciplines and communities. UL’s collections activities support our mission through connecting the KSU community to scholarly content and other resources of local importance. UL’s collections are selected and curated by the UL faculty who are in constant collaboration with the broader KSU faculty.

The goal of UL’s collection development efforts is to support the learning, teaching, and research needs of KSU by facilitating access to the breadth of scholarly debate on subjects relevant to the university. UL can only achieve this goal by facilitating access to resources covering all relevant academic points of view and from authors with a variety of backgrounds. UL aims to provide a relevant academic collection that supports KSU and our community with information to support any academic path of study or intellectual exploration. The resources UL provides have always, and will always, strive to support intellectual diversity and the robust exploration of ideas.

Right Book Right Place

Right Book Right Place (RBRP) is an overarching collections philosophy and strategic initiative of UL to provide materials to users, at the point of need, by leveraging all our resources and collaborative partnerships. Our RBRP vision will allow us to provide excellent service to our users, despite future projected budget challenges, by creating an environment where the resources they need are readily available where they need them, when they need them, and through the most efficient and cost-effective point of access.
