Converting Your Dissertation to PDF

The following documents provide some instructions on using Acrobat 6 with Microsoft Word to convert documents to PDF. Details may vary according to your version of of Word.

Acrobat 6 for Windows (quick convert) This is a link to a Portable Document Format (PDF) file This method is a good starting place. If you run into problems, try the Distiller method.

Acrobat 6 for Windows (Distiller) This is a link to a Portable Document Format (PDF) file If your document is long or has complicated formatting, you may need to use this method.

Acrobat 6 for Mac OS X This is a link to a Portable Document Format (PDF) file

The Adobe web site also has a set of tutorials This is a link to another web site on preparing ETDs. If you use a word processor other than Word or you use another operating system, you can contact us for advice.

Browse through your finished PDF to make sure all content and formatting was preserved during the conversion.

Note: If you print from Acrobat, be sure to select None for the "Page Scaling" option. Otherwise the document will print with incorrect margins and line spacing.
