Historical Note: The Kent State Shootings took place on May 4, 1970 on the Kent State University campus. There is very limited video footage of the event. However, since then, the Kent State Shootings and their aftermath have been heavily researched, documented, and commemorated.

Scope and Content: This collection contains a small number of films that captured parts of the events of the Kent State Shootings. However, the bulk of the collection is comprised of documentaries about the Kent State Shootings; Tent City (The Gym Annex Controversy); news segments covering the Annual Commemorations of the Kent State Shootings, and film footage of Annual Commemoration events. Also included are films of the May 4 Memorial Dedication and the Prentice Hall Parking Lot Markers dedication.

Statement of Arrangement: The collection is is arranged into two series, both arranged chronologically. The first series comprises the bulk of the collection and includes films and videos related to the Kent State Shootings. The second series includes film footage compiled for an unnamed, and likely unfinished documentary. These items were separated into a series in order to preserve their original order.

• Series 1: May 4 Films and Videos, 1968-2026
• Series 2: Documentary (Title Unknown) Footage, 1970-1987
