History of Kent State University Regional Campuses Office
Since its founding, Kent State University has offered classes at numerous locations throughout Northeast and Central Ohio. From 1912 into the 1960's, Kent offered extension classes in the afternoons and evenings, mostly in urban areas, with curricular offerings focusing on K-12 teacher education. In the early 1960s, Kent began emphasizing other types of coursework and degrees, and official regional campuses were established on permanent sites around Northeast Ohio. Today the curriculum reflects programs at the associates, bachelors, baccalaureate-parallel, developmental and continuing education level, catering mainly to the specific educational and training needs of the community and surrounding industries. Kent State University currently has seven main regional campuses, offering a number of associates and bachelors degrees, as well as continuing education and training coursework. These campuses are Astabula, East Liverpool, Geauga, Salem, Stark, Tuscarawas, and Trumbull.
