Scope and Content
The body of this local history collection can be divided into two major sections: materials focusing on specifically on Brimfield Township, Portage County Ohio and materials focusing on other local townships and communities in Portage County, Ohio. For Brimfield Township, subject coverage includes township histories, maps, papers, books of record, town hall account books, township trustee materials, local school publications, church-related publications and records, and items from various local, private organizations and clubs. A large chunk of the Brimfield portion of the collection is comprised of family materials, e.g., correspondence, diaries, individual account books, and family histories.
The second major section, covering other local townships and communities in Portage County, Ohio, has a similiar focus to the Brimfield Township section. However, it is not as extensive.
In terms of coverage, the collection extends from the early part of the 19th century all the way up to the late 20th century. The overall arrangement is alphabetical by broad subject categories. Within each subject cateogory, items are ordered chronologically.
