Scope and Content: The John Alfred Means (1811-1896), Papers, contain 44 Civil War general and special orders and other documents relating to Means, copies of his appointments as Captain and Lieutenant Colonel, a copy of his discharge, a Muster Out Roll of Company C, 115, O.V.I., a folder containing a typed biography and pictures of Means, a copy of the Akron Beacon Journal and Republican for Sept 4, 1896, containing his obituary, and a copy of The Civil War and Tallmadge, Ohio, 1961.
