This group of microfilm, dating from 1926 to 2015, contains copies of Kent State University's student-run campus newspaper from its earliest appearance as the Searchlight in 1926 to its present incarnation as the Daily Kent Stater.

History of Daily Kent Stater microfilm collection.

From the formation of a mustache club in 1926, to the controversial events of May 4, 1970, the Daily Kent Stater has played an integral role in documenting the history of Kent State University. The student-run daily campus newspaper first appeared as the Searchlight on February 25, 1926. Just over five months after its establishment, the Searchlight was replaced by the Kent Stater on July 29, 1926. The newspaper took on its current title as the Daily Kent Stater in December of 1953. Today, the Daily Kent Stater is published Monday through Friday during the regular school year, and weekly on Wednesdays during the summer months. The newspaper also maintains an online edition currently called KentWired.com, published jointly with Kent State University's TV-2.

Scope and Content

The Daily Kent Stater microfilm collection, consists of issues of Kent State University's student-run newspaper, dating from 1926-2015. Some reels include issues of the Summer Kent Stater. Early incarnations of the summer publication are also included under the titles: Kent State University Summer News, Kent State University Summer Bulletin, and the Kent Summer News.
