Doug Moore May 4 papers

Doug Moore (Alfred Douglass Moore, Jr.) was born May 23, 1924 near Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Antioch College with hopes of becoming a chemical engineer and served as a U.S. Navy test pilot during World War II. After the war, he returned to Ohio to complete his education and begin a career in newspaper journalism. During the Korean War, he worked as a writer and a photographer for the Lorain Journal. He then worked as the assistant chief photographer at the Toledo Blade until coming to Kent State, where he worked from July, 1967 to March 10, 1987 as chief photographer. His photographs included, among other things, the events of May 4, 1970 at Kent State University. Though he had no formal training in photography, he was highly awarded for his work and received over 20 awards from the Ohio News Photographers' Association. He died March 10, 1987 at the age of 62.

The Doug Moore May 4 papers include bulletins, correspondence, flyers, legal documents, meeting minutes, position papers, press releases, publications, reports, statements, and subject files. Most of these materials are from 1970-1977 and related to the events of May 4, 1970, court cases, and commemorations.

The Doug Moore May 4 papers are arranged alphabetically by type of material.

General clippings about the Kent State shootings and related topics have been removed from this collection and will be integrated into the May 4 Clippings, Magazines, and Journal Articles collection.

Further information concerning Doug Moore can be found in the Doug Moore papers, which contain papers not related to May 4 and have been processed separately.
