Susan Wadsworth-Booth appointed as director of Kent State University Press

Kent State University is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Wadsworth-Booth as the director of the Kent State University Press.

Wadsworth-Booth, formerly the director of the Duquesne University Press in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will begin her duties on September 11.

More than 72,000 items in Kent State University Libraries’ May 4, 1970 collection will be digitally captured with the funding assistance of a $119,443 matching grant, provided by the National Historical Publications & Records Commission (NHPRC). The digitization of these documents will allow users to explore these events and the context surrounding them through free, online access.

The Kent State University Libraries will host Michael Blanding, author of the bestseller The Map Thief on Thursday, April 28, at 6:00 p.m. in Library Room 1018. This Borowitz True Crime Lecture event will include a presentation by Blanding and a book signing. Copies of The Map Thief will be available for purchase.

Over 100 reel-to-reel audio recordings pertaining to the May 1970 Kent State shootings and their aftermath are now accessible through the Kent State University Special Collections and Archives’ digital repository. Some of the recently digitized items include previously inaccessible audio recordings of radio call-in forums, a speech by University President Robert I. White the day after the shootings, a press conference with six students who met with President Richard M.

The Kent State University Libraries have been awarded an Ohio Archives Grant of $2,000 for the proposal “Providing Access to the Kent State Shootings Audio Archive.” The Ohio Archives Grants are funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, an arm of the National Archives and Records Administration through their State and National Archival Partnership Grants program. The funded projects include organizing and preserving historical records and cataloging and digitizing records for improved access.

The former curator of Special Collections and Archives at Kent State University is donating hundreds of treasures from a personal library, which he amassed over the past half century.

Alex Gildzen, who moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, following his retirement more than 20 years ago, has spent the past three months packing books and personal papers from his shelves, and shipping them to the Kent State University Libraries department of Special Collections and Archives.
