Undergraduate goals

The undergraduate program in economics is designed to offer students a broad background in the field of economics.  Students are prepared for advanced study in economics as well as careers in applied fields.

 

Graduate goals

The Master of Arts program in economics provides excellent preparation for a career in economic research in government or the private sector, and for doctoral study.  This program focuses on allowing students to develop strong analytical and quantitative skills.  Students are well trained in the application of economic theory and methods of statistical analysis.  Two tracks are offered in the program, Economic Analysis and Financial Economics.

 

Departmental goals

The Economics curriculum is designed to provide students with a conceptual and analytical framework necessary to understand the complex interrelationships which exist in modern industrial nations.  The program is designed to provide students with the background to function as intelligent and informed citizens and to pursue careers in government service and business and industry. Undergraduate economics majors are also well prepared to pursue graduate work in economics.  Also a major in Economics is an excellent preparation for law school.

Acquired only if absolutely necessary.

Government Documents

 The collection is strong from 1962-present, with earlier collections obtained from purchases and donations.  All materials are cataloged and accessible via Kentlink This is a link to another web site.

 

Methods of acquisition

Most government documents are received free of charge from federal and state governments.  Federal government documents are selected to match a profile that supports the Economics curriculum.  If requested by the department, monographic funds may be used to purchase documents materials that are not normally received for free.

 

Federal publications

Many agencies publish and distribute information in support of the research and instructional interests of the Economics Department.  The Commerce Department, Federal Trade Commission and the Agriculture Department supplies the school with documents that offer various statistical information concerning the field of Economics.  We receive all material published by the Library of Congress, which is accessible through KentLink.  Any and all congressional publications are received by the library, which includes bills and laws, congressional hearings, congressional records and various House and Senate reports.
