Physics Collection Development Guidelines

General Department Information

The Physics Department maintains a World Wide Web home page with current information about its program, faculty and course offerings. Specialized areas of research in the department include Condensed Matter Physics/ Liquid Crystals/High Temperature Superconductivity, and Nuclear Physics.

The Center for Nuclear Research has operated within the Physics Department to support, enhance, and promote fundamental studies of the nature of atomic nuclei, nuclear particles and their interactions. The Center manages and coordinates the research programs and grant funding and fosters a strong academic environment with national and international standing.

The National Science Foundation Science and Technology Research Center for Advanced Liquid Crystalline Optical Materials (ALCOM) is a pre-eminent center for research in liquid crystals. ALCOM is a consortium of Kent State University, Case Western University, and the University of Akron. The Liquid Crystal Institute at Kent is its hub.

Scope of Coverage

Objectives:

Primary objective of this collection is to support the curriculum and research needs of the faculty, graduate and undergraduate students in the Physics department. It also serves the interdisciplinary needs of other academic units with particular emphasis in the areas of Liquid Crystals, Chemical Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and Computer Sciences. The collection includes resources to support an understanding of the principles and interpretation of the role of physics for non physics majors and students in related interdisciplinary programs.
