Replacement Costs & Policy
Replacement costs for:
- Most KentLINK items (monograph and serials) indicate a default $65.00 item replacement charge.
- Fashion Library items indicate a $90.00 item replacement charge.
- Kent Campus Audio-Visual Services film and video indicate the actual item price or a default $115.00 item replacement charge.
- OhioLINK items indicate a $75.00 item replacement charge and a $50.00 billing fee (total $125.00).
- Interlibrary Loan items (received from other libraries) indicate a $130.00 replacement charge.
Damaged items policy: Patrons will not be charged for normal wear and tear (determined by the library) of library items. Patrons will be charged for damage to library items due to neglect.

Binding fees for repairing library material damaged while in the possession of the patron:
Periodicals: $8.00 (Price subject to change.) Books: $6.00 (Price subject to change.)
Media storage container replacement costs:
CD cases: Single capacity = $1.00; 6-capacity = $3.00 Video case (single video) = $2.00
Cost of media cases we do not keep in stock will be the actual cost of the item rounded up to nearest whole dollar.
A $15.00 processing fee is added to all replacement and binding costs.
Replacement Policy
Fees associated with lost library items include:
Replacement Billing Processing
If a patron owes for a lost KentLINK or OhioLINK item(s), then the patron has the following options for restitution:
- The patron may pay the replacement fee (and billing fee, if applicable). If the item is found within one (1) year, the item may be returned for a refund of the replacement fee only.
OR
- With prior permission from the Libraries and Media Services Billing Office, the patron may provide a replacement copy (new, not used) in lieu of paying the replacement fee. The Billing Office will contact the loaning KentLINK/OhioLINK library to request approval to accept a replacement copy. A processing fee may be charged at the discretion of the owning library. If the original item is found after a replacement copy has been provided, no refunds will be issued.
In either case, billing fees and processing fees, if charged, must be paid and will not be refunded. Once the manner of restitution is determined and the transaction completed, then the transaction is closed and no further change or negotiation is permitted.
