Metadata & Cataloging Librarian
Kent State University Libraries seeks a forward-thinking, detail-oriented librarian to join our Resource Innovation team in support of the teaching and research mission of Kent State University. The Metadata & Cataloging Librarian will provide timely and accurate access to our collections through the creation and management of bibliographic and authority records for multiple resource types, physical and electronic, according to national and local standards. The position serves the cataloging needs of the libraries throughout the KSU system, participates in projects, and engages with student employees.
Primary responsibilities of the Metadata & Cataloging Librarian are:
- Performing original and complex copy cataloging (of all formats) and holdings maintenance using OCLC Connexion.
- Processing batch loading of bibliographic records into our local catalog system.
- Performing bibliographic record enhancement and metadata remediation, including reclassification and subject analysis using LCSH.
- Creating and improving authority records through participation in the Library of Congress’ Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO).
- Maintaining documentation on cataloging procedures and best practices.
- Participating in the collection and analysis of statistics related to cataloging.
This position is a 12-month, Non-tenure Track faculty position. Starting salary: $55,000 at Assistant Professor rank.

Required Qualifications:
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or other relevant graduate degree as deemed appropriate by the Library.
- At least 1 year of experience performing complex copy or original cataloging working within an integrated library system cataloging module.
- Experience applying cataloging standards including RDA, MARC21, LCSH, and LC Classification.
- Experience using OCLC Connexion and/or OCLC WorldShare.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of complex copy and original cataloging experience in a variety of formats in an academic or research library.
- Experience with batch loading and processing of records.
- Experience cataloging music and media.
- Experience creating and editing authority records (NACO work.)
- Experience working with shared catalogs and library consortiums.
- Track record showing ability to work collaboratively.
- Demonstrated understanding of the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
