Functional/Programmatic Duties

  • Oversees all cataloging functions of Special Collections and Archives
  • Manages and provides leadership for metadata functions for access and description programs of Special Collections, including those applied to finding aids and digital archival resources
  • Performs original and copy cataloging of materials in all formats added to Special Collections and Archives
  • Advises on the maintenance of desirable workflow and the establishment of cataloging and metadata priorities
  • Applies current national standards for cataloging rare books and special collections and informs other members of the Department about those standards and the implications of contributing catalog records to both national and statewide databases

Public Service Duties

  • Provides outreach, instructional and research support for Kent State students and faculty, and other users like alumni and national or international researchers. These may include, but are not limited to the following activities:
    • Service point duties (e.g., service desk, welcome desk, etc.)
    • Information Literacy instruction
    • Library instruction and workshops
    • Development and production of learning objects and tutorials
    • Research consultations, in-person and virtual
    • Related programs and events
    • Affordable course materials consultation Communicates with and promotes services regularly
    • Develops and maintains related print and online materials
    • Curate physical and virtual exhibits

Collection Service Duties

  • Assists in collection development, particularly as it that applies to cataloging and metadata associated with donated collections
  • Establishes and strengthens donor relations, particularly as it impacts cataloging and metadata of donated collections
  • Leads and/or participates in collection management initiatives within Special Collections and Archives, including weeding, clean-ups, material shifts, and other related projects
  • Assists in communicating collections and acquisitions decisions and initiatives, especially to assigned areas
  • Recommends acquisitions needs, including documented teaching, research and accreditation needs of users, especially from assigned areas
  • Provides relevant information and feedback on renewal decisions

Coordination, Planning and Assessment Duties

  • Provides project-based supervision for students in the unit
  • Participates in library, departmental, and individual goal setting activities
  • Participates in strategic planning initiatives
  • Evaluates services and programs as needed
