Project Archivist, Part-time, term

Special Collections and Archives, Kent State University Libraries seeks a Project Archivist to perform archival appraisal, arrangement and description of archival collection(s) held by the unit.  This position will complete processing work as outlined in the unit’s processing plan for the collection(s) included in the project. The Project Archivist is a temporary, part-time position funded through June 30, 2023 for the initial phase of the project.  May be renewed, depending on funding availability, for future phases.

Minimum qualifications:

  • MLS, MLIS, or MS from an ALA-accredited program of library and/or information science
  • Experience in processing archival collections.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Coursework in archival administration
  • Prior work experience in a special collections/archives setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of archival arrangement and description practices
  • Record of completing complex projects with time constraints

Salary/Schedule:

$21/hr for up to 24 hours per week thru June 30, 2023. 

Examples of Duties/Essential Functions:

  • Perform archival appraisal of records
  • Re-house materials into archival enclosures
  • Arrange records into logical groupings (level of description is dependent on processing plan)
  • Physically process records, applying professional archival standards
  • Identify records in need of preservation work
  • Identify records for future digital capture
  • Create an archival finding aid (level of description is dependent on processing plan)
  • Provide the Head of Special Collections and Archives and the May 4 Archivist with regular updates on progress and prepare a formal report upon completion of each phase of the project.
