Assistant Director, LaunchNET

LaunchNET Kent State University seeks an entrepreneurial and collaborative Assistant Director to join our team.  LaunchNET is a department within University Libraries that helps Kent State students, faculty/staff, and alumni transform their ideas into thriving businesses, successful projects, or innovative collaborations.  Through meetings, mentoring, workshops, and events, LaunchNET promotes entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as helping clients create new businesses or grow existing start-ups.


The Assistant Director will provide leadership for the activities of the LaunchNET program, including one-on-one advising with our entrepreneurs, administering microgrants programming, pitch competitions, and other related activities.  The Assistant Director will work directly with university administrators, faculty, and staff to coordinate interdisciplinary co-curricular programming that promotes an entrepreneurial culture throughout the University.

Primary responsibilities of the Assistant Director, LaunchNET include:

  • Providing daily oversight of consulting, advising and mentoring of entrepreneurs and those considering entrepreneurship.
  • Creating action plans around the entrepreneurs' strategies, goals, and ideation; development of business plans and financial models; tracking progress; inputting data into the LaunchNET database; and directing ventures to the necessary resources.
  • Serving in a leadership role and collaborating with administrative and academic leaders and faculty within Kent State, with other regional universities, and with local K-12 schools to develop and implement entrepreneurial programs that enhance university stakeholder success.
  • Collaborating with the Director in cultivating relationships with external organizations, businesses and LaunchNET board members that can provide opportunities for LaunchNET clients to advance their venture, and providing presentations of business-training modules to an executive and entrepreneur audience at government-sponsored, community, and private events.
  • Working closely with LaunchNET's Marketing Manager and others on the development and coordination of creative opportunities (exhibitions, engagements, etc.) that promote and advance the innovative profile of the program.

This is a grant-funded unclassified staff position, which is eligible for annual renewal.  Starting salary range: $57,061 - $64,000.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience working in a consulting role focusing on the formation and growth phase of a start-up business or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • High level technical understanding to facilitate consulting and mentoring of intellectual property driven ventures
  • Familiarity with Northeast Ohio entrepreneurship ecosystem and startup resources
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
