History of the May 4 Task Force
Founded in October of 1975, the student-run May 4 Task Force (M4TF) was developed in response to the Kent State University administration's decision to halt university-sponsored funding of the annual May 4 Commemoration. As a result, the group has since sponsored, organized and produced events for the annual commemoration. Since its inception, the May 4 Task Force has sought to support the families affected by the Kent State Shootings of May 4, 1970 by providing educational programming and raising awareness about the event and its impact.
Scope and Content
To date, this collection ranges from approximately 1986 to 2012 and is organized alphabetically by series and chronologically within each series and subseries. Series 2: Event Materials and Series 4: Organizational Materials are dated by school year, following the fall to spring semester schedule. There are significant gaps between years with the bulk of documents dating from 2005 to 2009. The collection is comprised of correspondence, event materials, news clippings and publications, and organizational materials.

Acquisition Information
In 2008, former May 4 Task Force president, Sarah Lund-Goldstein, donated this collection to the Kent State University Special Collections and Archives. In 2011, former May 4 Task Force president, Stephanie Vincent, donated additional materials including meeting minutes and financial records.
