Title: Student Maker Assistant 1

Pay Rate: Intermediate

General Description

Provides direct support to users in the operation of maker technologies in the space.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides direct instruction on the utilization of makerspace equipment
  2. Assists and monitors users in the safe operation of machinery
  3. Protects equipment from unauthorized tampering, damage or loss
  4. Learns fundamental operations of hardware and software, then actively continues to develop this knowledge
  5. Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the space - including sweeping and surface cleaning - as well as the routine maintenance of equipment
  6. Follows procedures and enforces policies of the makerspace
  7. Aids in the documentation of makerspace procedures
  8. Assists in the preparation and distribution of informational materials (e.g. documentation, handouts, tutorials, etc.)
  9. Provides tours of the makerspace to visitors and small groups
  10. Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  1. Possesses a basic familiarity and strong desire to further knowledge in the operation of hardware, such as 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters and CNC machines
  2. Capable of troubleshooting software and hardware issues
  3. Displays a professional attitude, friendliness and service-oriented demeanor at all times
  4. Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills, patience and the ability to work well with others
  5. Exhibits motivation and enthusiasm for learning new technologies and skills, and re-learning as needed
  6. Capable of assuming responsibility and works well without supervision
  7. Able to carry out assigned duties and projects to their completion or resolution

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Possesses a working knowledge of technology, such as 3D printing/modeling and DIY platforms (Raspberry Pi, Arduinos)
  2. Is an innovative problem solver with a curious mind
