Five architecture students from the School of Architecture and Environmental Design finished construction on the concrete Pagoda-like form the weekend before May 4, 1970. It was a prominent landmark, located on high ground, and juxtaposed to Taylor Hall which housed in part the School of Architecture. It too became a landmark of the May 4th event. The Pagoda appears in many photographs which shows students and National Guard Troops.
