University Libraries 2009 Fall Report: Facilities
This report highlights current activity across University Libraries. This information is being shared in advance of the annual fall meeting with Chairs, Directors, and Departmental Library Representatives and will provide background for discussion at the meeting.
Architecture Library renovation and expansion was celebrated during National Library Week this past spring. The project provided a long-overdue facelift and significantly improved user spaces. Additional space gained from a former classroom made it possible to install several computer workstations plus scanning and printing stations.
Collaborative Learning Spaces are available if you wish to offer that kind of learning experience to your students. The Main Library spaces provide an opportunity for students with a research assignment to work together with the guidance of their instructor. The area can be reserved. For more information, go to http://www.library.kent.edu/tower.
Performing Arts Library remains closed for the construction of the Roe Green Center facilities for the School of Theatre and Dance. However, during the 2009-2010 academic year the library space will be expanded and renovated to become the Performing Arts Library. This new library facility will open in Fall 2010 and will include two computer classrooms, group media rooms, new individual listening and viewing facilities, and collections serving music, theatre, and dance.
Presentation Practice Room on the 2d floor of the Main Library received significant student use this past year. The presenter's workstation and screen, along with the conference table seating six, provide an opportunity for students to practice their PowerPoint presentations. Students may reserve the space online through KentLINK (http://kentlink.kent.edu/record=b3194980) or by calling 330-672-2177.
