Abstract: Doug Moore was a photographer at Kent State University from 1967 to 1987, and was an eyewitness to the shootings at Kent State on May 4, 1970. These papers, dating from 1967 to 1978, relate to the shootings on May 4 as well as the court cases, memorial services, and other events in the years that followed.

Biography of Doug Moore

Doug Moore was born on May 23, 1924. He attended Antioch College and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His career in newspaper journalism initially included writing but soon changed to mostly photography. Before coming to Kent State University, he worked as a photographer for the Lorain Journal and then the Toledo Blade.

He worked for Kent State University from July 1967 to March 10, 1987 as chief photographer. His photographs included, among other things, the events of May 4, 1970 at Kent State University. He was highly awarded for his work and received over 20 awards from the Ohio News Photographers' Association. He died of cancer on March 10, 1987.
