This site provides links to official state home pages for each of the fifty United States.

USGS Scientific Investigations Report 2006-5139 covering the impact of weather on wildfires. Explores and links climate and wildfire conditions. The full report is available in PDF format.

Access the following types of state maps: shaded relief, county, black and white, satellite image, map showing a state in 1895, and a PostScript map.

Earth Explorer is a product of the US Geological Survey containing downloads of DOQQ'S (digital aerial photography), the National Elevation Dataset, Digital Line Graph data, as well as other Satellite imagery for the lower 48 states. These are free digital products. Just log in as Guest for access.

The National Resources Conservation Service provides free downloadable soil survey manuscripts and maps related to the United States and Caribbean Area.
Online Soil Survey Manuscripts

The National Snow and Ice Data Center provides comprehensive data about the polar regions, including up-to-date research, historical information, news, and reports on current research. The site also provides extensive images, including satellite images of the polar regions.

These maps provide information about the percentage of the popular vote and electoral vote distribution in each of the fifty states for every presidential election since 1860.

The USGS DEMs in ArcView GIS site provides instructions for and a demonstration on using United States Geological Survey SDTS formatted data. The site also provides links to free downloads of a SDTS2DEM translator provided by Gregg Townsend, staff scientist at the University of Arizona.
