Making Information Literacy Connections in the Ohio Academic Content Standards for K-12

Ohio educators recognize the importance of integrating information literacy skills throughout the K-12 curriculum.  Information literacy is represented as Guideline 5 This is a link to another web site in the Ohio Library Guidelines, and the concepts that comprise it are found throughout the Ohio Academic Content Standards (ACS). The information in the table below is excerpted from the "Library Guidelines ACS Alignment and Correlation Chart" (Ohio Department of Education. Library K-12 Guidelines. 2003, p. 205) and identifies the information literacy linkages between the Library Guidelines and the ACS. The terms are identified as follows:

Alignment: "signifies that the content identified in the standards and the guidelines is very similar. For example, Social Studies Skills and Methods represent the application of information literacy in the context of social studies."

Correlation: "signifies a connection between the guideline and the standard in which some of the skills represented in the guideline are also addressed in the standard."
