Government Documents - Student Job Descriptions
DUTIES:
Assists Government Documents Catalog Librarian with the processing of government documents materials and maps including:
- Check-in for print and non-print government documents that have Marcive records
- Check-in and copy cataloging sheet maps
- Handling on-the-fly records for government documents materials
- Helping maintain 856 field hot links for government documents records
- Helping link not-overlaying brief records
- Working on special projects related to government documents
ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Learn new skills and apply them to multiple situations
- Identify when they lack needed information to perform a task correctly
- Ask questions before they act
- Handle lots of details
- Work independently
- Exhibit dependability
- Work comfortably on a Microsoft Windows-based computer
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience with OCLC Connexion interfaces
- Experience with Millennium cataloging in staff mode
- Experience with Government Documents database
- Working with records for books, non-print materials and e-resources
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be currently enrolled in KSU graduate program
- Must be able to work 12-15 hours per week during normal business hours
- Must be able to work at least 2 semesters
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of AACR2r, MARC, LCSH, LCC, SuDocs
- Experience working with library automation system software and/or OCLC
- Experience working with Government Documents at any level or in any capacity
- Preference will be given to students who have at least completed, or are currently taking, the Organization of Library Materials class
- Students who can work during intersession will also be preferred
