This is a searchable database of scholarly websites related to geosciences, geography, and mining. Under the Virtual Libraries and Source Materials link, there are a wide range of reference materials of every kind. This site provides access to over 3100 records of valuable resources.

Through the Geography Network, you can access many types of geographic content including dynamic maps, downloadable data, and more advanced Web services.

This site provides driving directions, maps of locations and satellite images of those locations. Images are in full color if a little distorted by full zoom. Images seem to be 1-3 years old. There is no indication of how often images will be updated, if at all.

Find United States Geological Survey aerial photographs and topographic maps of most areas in the United States. Addresses can be entered to find coordinates.

"This Dynamic Planet" is an interactive version of a US Geological Survey print map which provides detailed information about volcanoes, earthquakes, impact craters, and plate tectonics. Both the front and back of the map can be viewed and printed to include tables of information on topics within Geology; to do this, just click the "printable pages" link. The map itself has zoom and pan features. Users can choose which geological features to identify on the map and print or save the results. Also, the data files used to create the map are available to download.

Type in the name of a place or latitude and longitude of a location, and this site will find the USGS topographic quadrangle map as well as provide information such as county, state, type of place (e.g. town/city), elevation, latitude, and longitude. Also, this site allows for choosing four map scales : 1:25,000; 1:50,000; 1:100,000; and 1:200,000. Limited to United States.

This is the site of the USGS Landsat Project and its satellite images. These images can be of use in agriculture, geography, forestry, regional planning, education, mapping, and global change research. The Landsat project involves a series of satellites used to monitor the earth's land surface.

Find out information about a specific place in Canada by typing in a geographical name or typing in the latitude and longitude. Information about a geographic name includes location of the place in terms of province and/or territory, feature type (e.g. city ; bay), location in terms of city or town, and latitude and longitude. Maps that show the location of a place can be obtained as well.

This site provides noteworthy worldwide and country-specific online gazetteers.

Users can search place names of locations in the United States and its territories. Ways to search include feature name, state or territory name, feature type, elevation range, county name, population range, and USGS 7.5' topographic map name.

Type in the name of a place, and this site will search for locations in the world with that name. Latitude and longitude, other geographical names for the place, place types (e.g. inhabited place; city), brief history, and reference tools used to gather information on the place name are found in the search results.

This site allows for searching towns that are currently located in Central/Eastern Europe or that existed at one time. Twenty-four Central/Eastern European countries are represented on this site, and searches can be broadened by including all countries in the town search or can be limited to one country at a time. Results include the name of the town and its variations, coordinates, the country where the town is located, and distance from a major city or geographical point.
