Government Search Engines
This is the U.S. government's official portal to federal and state information online. It offers a subject directory as well as a search engine that will search federal, state, or a particular state' s web sites.
Directories of Government Web Sites
The Library of Congress has created a number of gateways for online information in a variety of subject areas. This page provides links to all branches of the federal government, state and local government, and a number of foreign countries as well.
Government Agencies
This directory from the LSU Libraries allows users to search by keyword or to locate an agency by browsing the structure of the federal government. All three branches of the federal government are represented.
Statistics
This is an excellent gateway to economic and population census data. Data are available for download, in customizable tables or in thematic mapped. The site provides access data from the Decennial Censuses, the Economic Censuses, and the American Community Survey.
More than 70 agencies in the United States Federal Government produce statistics of interest to the public. The Federal Interagency Council on Statistical Policy maintains this site to provide easy access to the full range of statistics and information produced by these agencies for public use.
Legislation & Regulations
ProQuest Congressional (formerly LexisNexis Congressional)
Brings together a vast amount of information published by and about Congress including bills, laws, regulations, hearings, and committee reports to name only a few. Many of the documents are available full text. Many of the documents are available full text and are indexed back to 1789. Includes the full text of the Congressional Serial Set from 1789 to the present. Updates and coverage vary by section.
The Library of Congress hosts this site for congressional material. The legislative material goes back to at least 1989 with Public Laws available from 1973 to the present. Thomas also hosts the Congressional Record from 1989 to the present. Schedules for both houses of Congress are available as well.
State & Local Information
Ohio Capitol Connection (1989 - Current)
Ohio Capitol Connection provides information about current and past legislation of the Ohio General Assembly. Updated daily, it has the complete status and full text of bills introduced in the Ohio General Assembly. This database includes rosters of House and Senate members searchable by name or location, and addresses and biographies of the General Assembly members. While the database focuses on Ohio, information about the Federal government is also available.
This site provides a directory of official state, county, and city government Web sites.
The official web site of Ohio offers information for residents, businesses, government employees, and tourists. It also serves as a directory to websites for Ohio executive branch agencies, the legislature, and the courts.
International Documents
Europa is the official web site of the European Union (EU). The contents are available in the official language of each EU member nation. Treaties, trade documents, and a variety of official publications are available.
The UN site offers documents, reports, publications, treaties, outreach material, and contact information in a variety of languages. It is not a complete source for UN material; however, most newsworthy materials appear on the site.
