Renewing Your Library Materials
Renewing your library materials before they become overdue ...
- helps YOU avoid fines
- helps the library manage and protect the collection
- helps ALL library users by keeping the status of materials up-to-date
Renewal terms and policies vary according to the type of material checked out. For example, regularly circulating Kent State-owned books and OhioLINK books may be renewed four (4) times after the initial check-out; audiovisual materials from OhioLINK may not be renewed. For more detailed information, please see Loan Periods, Renewals, and Overdue Fines. (For information on Kent State-owned DVDs and Videos, please click here.)
IMPORTANT Items will not renew if there are other holds or requests for the item; though usually possible, renewals cannot be guaranteed, so plan your research accordingly!

Online Renewals
To renew your materials online, you need to access your KentLINK record . (Clicking the book renewal icon will also take you to your KentLINK record.)
Faculty, staff, and students: You will be prompted for your Flashline ID and password.
Other library users, including Community Borrowers and Alumni Association members: When prompted, please provide your name and Social Security number.
After you have provided this information, press the "Submit" button to display your record.
When you have accessed your KentLINK record, your name address, and phone number will appear, along with links for viewing and managing your KentLINK record. To renew your materials:
- View the items you have currently checked out by clicking the "(#) Items currently checked out" link.
- You may renew all the items you have checked out (by clicking the "RENEW ALL" button), or renew only certain items by using the check-boxes and clicking the "RENEW SELECTED ITEMS" button.
- After clicking the appropriate button, the page will reload, displaying the new due date(s) and any messages about items that could not be renewed and why (such as "TOO MANY RENEWALS," "RENEW DENIED," "TOO SOON TO RENEW," etc.) Using your browser's "Print" button, please print your list of checked out materials with their new due dates —for your records, and as proof that you renewed your materials online.
If "TOO MANY RENEWALS" is displayed, the item has reached its renewal limit and must be returned to a Kent State University Library before the due date to avoid overdue fines. For Kent State-owned items, if there are no holds on the item after it is checked in, the item may be checked back out to you using the regular check-out procedure. OhioLINK items must be sent back to the loaning institution.
If "RENEW DENIED" is displayed for an OhioLINK item, there is another request for the item at its home institution – the item will not renew and must be returned.
If "TOO SOON TO RENEW" is displayed, please wait until it is within seven (7) days prior to the due date before attempting to renew the item.
If an item has a HOLD on it or has been RECALLED, then it can not be renewed and should be returned to a Kent State University Library Circulation Desk as soon as possible on or before the item’s due date.

Renewals in Person
Renewals can be made in person with your University ID (FlashCard) or another form of photo ID (such as a driver's license) at any Kent State University Libraries circulation desk. You do not need to have the materials you wish to renew with you, unless you have reached the renewal limit on the item(s). Items that have reached the renewal limit must be checked in, and may be checked back out to you with the regular check-out procedure, provided there is no additional hold or recall on the item, and that there are no blocks on your record.
