Music Library - Student Employment Positions
Why not consider a position with the Music Library? Our collection contains over 70,000 printed volumes, and 15,000 sound recordings and other audiovisual materials. Equipment used in the Library includes compact disc players, cassette decks, turntables, VCR/TV, and a small computer lab. The library supports the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music and the nationally renowned Kent/Blossom Chamber Music Festival. It is open approximately 72 hours a week during the semester.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Circulation/Reference Desk

Greet patrons that approach the service desk

Check out items for use by patrons
-
Check in items returned by patrons
-
Direct patrons to areas of the collection

Answer phones in a professional and courteous manner
-
Assist patrons with disabilities in the use of the library
-
Work on special projects as assigned
Shelving
-
Learn and become proficient in the Library of Congress of Classification system in order to shelve and retrieve materials
-
Recognize differences of spine labels and locations for various collections within the Library
-
Shelf read classification number on spines of the library materials after they have been shelved to ensure that they have been placed in the correct order
-
Clear unchecked materials from study carrels and library tables for in-house use statistics
-
Place books on cart in call number order
-
Assist in special projects which may include shifting materials and other tasks as needed
Bindery

Pull current serials from shelves

Assist with receiving shipments from the Main Library Bindery Unit

Unpack shipments
-
Shelve periodical titles alphabetically
Interlibrary Loan

Retrieve requested books and periodicals

Locate requested articles

Make photocopies
