Bindery - Student Employment Positions
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with preparing shipments for commercial bindery
- Pull current serials from shelves in Periodical Services
- Check bindery tickets to confirm the information and that it matches
- Pack shipments, count pieces, and maintain records
Assist with receiving shipments from commercial bindery
- Unpack shipments
- Put titles alphabetically on shelves
- Make sure the binding was done correctly
- Put journals on trucks
- May check items in on KentLINK
Do physical processing
- Affix labels and protectors for monographs
- Insert security strip
- Properly stamp monographs and serials
- Sort and separate serials by location
- Apply tape for Reference items
Some lamination of paperbacks
Pam bind
In-house repairs
Make phase-boxes
Print labels for serials and ads
Some limited loose-leaf filing
Limited revisions made to online catalog records
Qualifications and Special Skills
Computer literacy a must
Ability to work independently
Ability to use sharp instruments such as knives and scissors. This requires that the students be mature and responsible.
Detail oriented
Ability to follow instructions, remember complicated procedures to follow for different kinds of material
