Gazetteers and Place Names
Find out information about a specific place in Canada by typing in a geographical name or typing in the latitude and longitude. Information about a geographic name includes location of the place in terms of province and/or territory, feature type (e.g. city ; bay), location in terms of city or town, and latitude and longitude. Maps that show the location of a place can be obtained as well.

This site provides noteworthy worldwide and country-specific online gazetteers.
Users can search place names of locations in the United States and its territories. Ways to search include feature name, state or territory name, feature type, elevation range, county name, population range, and USGS 7.5' topographic map name.
Type in the name of a place, and this site will search for locations in the world with that name. Latitude and longitude, other geographical names for the place, place types (e.g. inhabited place; city), brief history, and reference tools used to gather information on the place name are found in the search results.

This site allows for searching towns that are currently located in Central/Eastern Europe or that existed at one time. Twenty-four Central/Eastern European countries are represented on this site, and searches can be broadened by including all countries in the town search or can be limited to one country at a time. Results include the name of the town and its variations, coordinates, the country where the town is located, and distance from a major city or geographical point.
