Holdshelf

Library materials requested to pick up at the Performing Arts Library will remain on the holdshelf for 10 days.

Reserves

Books, journals, printed music, recordings and streamed audio on course reserve may be found in the Online Catalog, KentLINK, or the Performing Arts Library Online Course Reserves page.  Please request library materials at the Performing Arts Library service desk by call number.  Most materials on reserve will check out for 2 hours, but some materials will check out for 3 hours, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days.  Some 2 and 3 hour reserve materials will also check out overnight if checked out less than 2 hours before the Performing Arts Library closes.

Each patron may check out one  reserve item per type (score, recording, book) at a time.

Pickup Anywhere

The OhioLINK Pick-up Anywhere service allows KSU library users to request materials from the OhioLINK Catalog and pick them up at any Ohio academic library, not just a KSU library.

For example, a Kent State University student who lives in Willoughby can request materials through OhioLINK and have the materials sent to the Lakeland Community College Library for pickup.

This feature is indispensable to distance learners, commuters, and others who live closer to an OhioLINK institution other than the one where they study or work. Overdue notices and charges will be managed on your KentLINK Account. Call the Performing Arts Library Desk at 330-672-1668  if you need assistance in online book requesting.

Library User Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • All materials checked out on your card.
  • Knowing due dates.
  • Returning or renewing materials on time.
  • Library notices sent when you are out of town.
  • Reporting lost or stolen cards to the FLASHcard Office.

Damage to Music Scores

In order to preserve our music score collection for future library users, we enforce KSU Libraries policy regarding extensive damage to library materials.  While we understand that it is essential for teaching and performing to annotate scores, this should not be done directly on the library's copies.  Damage to an item, including (but not limited to) markings of any kind (including pencil), affixing tape or post-it notes, or damage to pages or bindings will result in replacement cost charges.

Many items in the music score collection already contain markings and library staff members are working to erase markings as time permits.  This policy applies only to materials marked with a stamp stating "Library material returned bearing personal marking will be charged to the borrower as having been defaced!"  Library users are given one opportunity to erase markings written in library scores and will be notified via email.  Any following instances of items returned with markings or other damage will result in an automatic replacement charge on the library patron's record.

John Mack Music Collection Guidelines for Use

Because of John Mack's significance as a performer and teacher, it is possible to learn much from the markings found in his music collection. In order to preserve the rich insight and legacy that these marking offer, please DO NOT MARK in this music and DO NOT ERASE EXISTING MARKINGS.

Any alteration of these materials will result in charges equivalent to existing replacement charges for Kent State University library materials. Ongoing circulation of this valuable collection depends on the continued respect for these use guidelines by those who have the privilege of studying from these materials.  Open the John Mack Music Collection guide for more information on this collection.
