Historical Note

Kent State University Theatre has held numerous stage productions, from plays and musicals to visiting ensembles and lecturers. With Porthouse Theatre running throughout the summers, the majority of productions on campus since the early 1970's were put on during the fall and spring semesters. The locations of the various campus stages have changed over the course of time, with new buildings and renovation projects. The E. Turner Stump Theatre is located in the Music and Speech building and has housed larger productions since 1960, and was fully renovated in 1989. The smaller Wright Curtis Theatre, also located in the Music and Speech building, has typically catered to more avant-garde productions.
