Biography of Emily Farnham
Dr. Emily Farnham (nee Farnum), born and raised in Kent, Ohio, was a painter and art historian recognized for her research on artists Charles Demuth and Hans Hofmann. Farnham studied at the Cleveland School of Art, received an undergraduate degree in education at Kent State University, and held both a M.A. in watercolor painting and a Ph.D. in the history of art from Ohio State University. Farnham taught at many universities during her forty year career including East Carolina University before retiring to Provincetown, Massachusetts where she died in 2004 at the age of ninety-one.

The Emily Farnham papers span the years 1855-2004. They contain correspondence, photographs, gallery announcements and invitations, and manuscripts. Materials related to Farnham's family history, the history of Kent, Ohio, manuscripts for publications about artists Charles Demuth and Hans Hofmann, and her professional career as an art historian and artist form the bulk of the collection.
