The Arctic Theme Page, sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, provides extensive maps of the Artctic, including wildlife maps, reference maps with place names, topographic maps, city maps, historical maps, aboriginal maps, flora and fauna maps, interactive maps, and other maps. The site also provides a great deal of other information and data about the arctic, as well as links to related sites.
Arizona Department of Environmental Quality eMaps provide an interactive map of Arizona that can be searched for specific features such as boundries, cities, towns, Native American lands, hydrography, transportation, water quality, and similar features.
The Arkansas Geographic Information Systems Gateway provides access to Arkansas' GeoData Clearinghouse, which includes a map viewer, data finder, raster maps, and GeoStor applications. In addition, the site provides links to the Arkansas State Land Information Board, Arkansas Geographic Information Office, Arkansas GIS Users Forum, and state's Chief Information Officer, as well as providing information about the state's ongoing GIS project.
The Environmental Protection Agency hosts this site. BASINS is an environmental analysis system which incorporates GIS, national watershed data, and other tools. This site offers the latest version of the BASINS system with a tutorial, along with features such as an email listserv, related metadata, and a links page.
The Brazil Geological Survey site provides an interactive map of Brazil that allows searching of boundries; precious, base, and ferrous metals; gemstones; industrial materials; energy resources; construction materials; mineral resources; oil fields; and rivers. The map also allows searching of oceanic resources and features and techtonic, geological, and other maps. The site is in Portugese.
The University of Calgary GIS Data site includes online digital orthophotos of Calgary and other local areas. The site also provides descriptions and ordering information for other maps. In addition, the site provides links to related sites.

The Colorado Virtual Library Resources: Geospatial Data allows users to search six different databases by keyword, bounding box, bounding coordinate, or place name. The Czech Geological Survey collects and assess data on the geological composition of the Czech Republic. This site provides an interactive map viewer, geological maps and metadata, and related information. Much of the site has been translated into English, but some parts are only in Czech.

Earth Explorer is a product of the US Geological Survey containing downloads of DOQQ'S (digital aerial photography), the National Elevation Dataset, Digital Line Graph data, as well as other Satellite imagery for the lower 48 states. These are free digital products. Just log in as Guest for access.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection: Geographic Information Systems site has several features. The Geospatial Resources Index offers interactive maps ranging from scientific watershed data to recreational canoe trails. The GeoData Directory is a web-based resource of spatial information available for public download. The ArcIMS Portal provides access to most of the ArcIMS Internet mapping websites. The site also provides a link to Florida's Land Boundary Information System and other related sites.
The Florida Geological Survey - Data and Maps site provides state and county geology maps, as well as topographic maps, of Florida. The site also provides data about sinkholes and oil and gas production, as well as links to related sites.
The Florida Land Boundry Information System provides interactive map interfaces and accompanying data for three data sets: survey data, water boundry data, and mapping data. The mapping data includes digital orthophoto imagery, digital raster graphics, digital line graphics, digital elevation models, and National Wetlands Inventory maps. The Central Florida Geographic Information Systems site provides a regional users group and a data clearinghouse for central Florida. The US Department of Agriculture Forest Service Clearing House provides free downloadable maps (MODIS active fire mapping, Primary Base Series and Single Edition Series maps by state, etc.) , vector data, and other forest service information and GIS resources available as .TIF images.
InfoTerre provides interactive mapping of France, including administrative boundries and raster images. The site is in French.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources depository for spatial data can be searched by county or category. Categories include: administrative, biologic, cadastral, demographic, geographic/soils, hydrologic, land use/cover, recreational, topographic, transportation/ infrastructure. Not all data is available for each category and county. Data is downloadable in Arc/INFO Interchange format.

This site offers free geospatial data from Natural Resources Canada. Many collections are available including raster, vector and ground point control. Collections are at national as well as regional and local data including topographic, vegetation, soils, etc. Most data are in zip format and must be unzipped. Each comes with a metadata file in txt format.

The Georgia GIS Data Clearinghouse provides maps and aerial photographs of Georgia. The data can be searched using either queries or a graphic map viewer. The site features Department of Transportation and topographic maps, as well as data from the 2000 census. The site also provides historical aerial photographs and links to related sites. Free registartion is required.
Germany's GeoDatenZentrum provides maps and related metadata about Germany. The site includes an interactive map viewer that can search by geographical names, historical place names, and coordinates. The site is in German with limited English translation.
The GGMC : Geological Services Division site provides geological maps, topographic maps, mineral exploration maps, and license status maps of Guyana. The site also provides various geological and related reports and links to the mineral property administration, cartographic section, field section, chemical and sample laboatory, petrology laboratory, GIS / Computer section, and drilling section, as well as other related sites.
Hawaii Statewide GIS Program provides extensive maps of the islands of Hawaii. Maps of coastlines, roads, political boundries, natural resources, and extensive maps of physical features, are provided. An onlne mapping application, called "I-Map Hawaii," is also provided that enables searching by specific features such as place names, parks, boating facilities, district boundries, and development plan boundries.
The Hungarian Geological Survey provides data regarding the geology of Hungary: geologic explorations; national borehole registry; gravity , geomagnetic , geoelectric , and seismic surverys; well logging; coal, hydrocarbon, nonmetalic mineral, and bauxite resources; landslide hazards; and potential sources of pollution. Additional information produced by the Survery is provided, as are links to related sites.
The Idaho Geological Survey provides a wide range of online GIS maps and data regarding the geology of Idaho. In addition, extensive information regarding geologic hazards, mining, and educational programs is available. A listing of the survey's publications is also provided.

The Louisiana Statewide GIS Atlas provides very extensive maps and information regarding Louisiana. This site provides access to Mississippi's GIS data and offers many related resources, such as metadata, data sets, mapping of data sets, and statewide aerial photography. The two most commonly used file formats for downloading are Arc/Info (ARC) and ArcView (AV), though other formats can be used through contact with the Technical Center.
The Maine GIS Data Catalog provides access to the digital geographic data produced by the GIS Executive Council and Maine GeoLibrary Board. The Maryland Geological Survey site provides digital quadrangle geologic maps and digital county geologic maps of Maryland, as well as maps and information about Maryland's general geology, shoreline, gold district, Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Historical Park, surficial sediments of the Chesapeake Bay, shoreline changes of the Tidewater region, county boundries, reservoir bathymetry, and other features. The Maryland State Geographic Information Committee site provides a list of maps and other publications regarding Maryland produced by Maryland's Department of Housing and Community Development, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Planning, and State Highway Administration. The New Jersey Bureau of Geographic Information Systems site provides a wealth of maps and other GIS data regarding New Jersey. New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources: Geologic Maps provides information about geologic maps and GIS products. This free database provides some searchable access to current geoscience publications that are not yet included in the GeoRef Database. The unedited references contain key terms along with bibliographic information, but no abstracts, links to full text, or library holdings are given.
At the site for the Instituto Colombiano de Geologia y Mineria, there is a PDF geologic map of Colombia. The PDF map can be accessed by going to the "Mapa Geologico de Colombia" link under the blue "Geologia" tab at the top of the Web page. The second page of the PDF includes a geologic data chart. The Illinois Geological Survey, conducted from 1851 to 1875, was the first geological survey of Ilinois. Originally, Nevada in Maps contained historic geologic and mining district maps of Nevada, primarily produced by the U.S. Geological Survey between 1863-1968. It has been expanded to include over 4,000 maps—including contemporary maps of the state, side by side with other thematic maps. Maps can be browsed through the various collections and can be searched by keyword. These digital collections offer Nevada’s history cartographically for students and researchers at all levels, for legal use, and for the general public for infinite applications. The Oil and Gas Interactive Web Map gives data on individual counties and can be zoomed, panned, and printed in a variety of layouts (PDF, GIF, JPEG, etc). You can perform queries as well as create maps showing wells from particular geologic intervals with features such as type of production, proximity depth, and proximity to city boundaries. Many other features let you further customize the map. Before gaining access to this map, you will have to accept a user agreement. This site uses pop-up windows and will require you to disable pop-up blockers. Also, this map works best with high-resolution screens. Instructions are included to help you adjust your resolution.

"This Dynamic Planet" is an interactive version of a US Geological Survey print map which provides detailed information about volcanoes, earthquakes, impact craters, and plate tectonics. The Libraries have created collaborative learning spaces on the 6th floor of the Main Library. These can be reserved by faculty for up to two meetings of their class. The spaces provide the opportunity for students to work together under the guidance of their instructor and in proximity to the Libraries' print collections.
