Kent State University Libraries has worked closely with university officials to support the recommendations and steps outlined on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information page, while maintaining access to library services and resources as much as possible. As such, the following hours, guidelines, and modified services will remain in effect until further notice. These hours, guidelines, and modified services will be re-evaluated on a regular basis, are subject to change, and may be extended beyond the end of the semester. Reference and Instructional Services

For faculty: if you already had library instruction planned for your course(s) or are thinking about including library instruction, our Subject Librarians are available to provide asynchronous instructional modules to help your students. Please contact your subject librarian or email us ( to talk about how we can continue to provide library instruction for your course(s).

Course Reserves

In order to help students gain access to materials needed to support successful online instruction, we are working with faculty to provide additional online alternatives for their courses.

  • Due to the high volume of requests, we are prioritizing materials required for an assignment. 
  • At this time, we are unable to do further scanning, but do let us know your needs. We are skilled at identifying online alternatives and many publishers are making resources freely available online.

Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery

  • You can continue to request electronic copies of articles and book chapters via Illiad.
  • Requests for print materials cannot be filled at this time. 
  • For materials that are currently on loan from other institutions, please do not return them. Whenever possible, we will be extending their due dates until everyone returns to campus and waiving any fees.

Physical Materials

  • Requesting or recalling KentLINK items is available for curbside pickup only.
  • Requesting or recalling KentLINK, OhioLINK, or Search Ohio items is not available.
  • Items due during this period have had their due dates extended to August 31, 2020.
  • Items currently on hold are available for delivery or have been cancelled.
  • Instructions for returning materials can be found on our FAQs page.

Statistical Consulting

  • Statistical Consulting appointments are still available during the closure; all appointments will be held using Microsoft Teams or Google Meet.
  • You can sign up for an appointment time using the Scheduler or by emailing If you have a preference for a particular video conferencing software, please include this when you sign up.

Other services

Writing Commons

  • The Writing Commons physical locations are closed for the remainder of Spring 2020.  Virtual appointments are available by email, text chat or video conferencing.
  • Visit our Scheduler to make an appointment. Our Tutors are off site, but we are just as ready to help as ever!


  • Drop-in tutoring has moved online. Check out the Drop-in Tutoring schedule.
    • Drop-in tutoring is primarily available for mathematics and science courses.
  • Scheduled tutoring has moved online. Schedule an appointment for Tutoring.
    • Continue to schedule new appointments as you always have.
  • All tutoring has been moved online for the remainder of the semester. 


  • All Library events have been canceled until further notice.
