Connect to a Windows computer from a macOS computer

To connect to a Windows computer from a macOS computer do the following:

  1. If you haven’t done so already, download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client
  2. If you haven’t done so already, download and install the FortiClient VPN
  3. Connect to the FortiClient VPN.
  4. Open a web browser and go to the Remote Computer Access website (this tutorial uses Apple Safari).
  5. Under the Computer Labs section, select the computer lab you want to access.
  6. Click the Connect button next to an available computer (icons identify a Windows or Apple/macOS computer).

  7. A popup window will appear with instructions on how to connect to this lab computer. Click the Download button.

  8. An .rdp file will download to the Downloads folder on your computer. Open the Finder and navigate to your downloads folder.
  9. Double click the .rdp file to open it with Microsoft Remote Desktop.

  10. When prompted enter your Kent State University email address in the in the Username textbox. Make sure to include @kent.edu in the username.
  11. Enter your Kent State University password in the Password textbox.
  12. Click the Continue button.

  13. When prompted to connect click the Continue button.

  14. You should be logged into the lab computer remotely at this point and see the desktop of the computer lab
