Connect to a Windows computer from a macOS computer
To connect to a Windows computer from a macOS computer do the following:
- If you haven’t done so already, download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client
- If you haven’t done so already, download and install the FortiClient VPN
- Connect to the FortiClient VPN.
- Open a web browser and go to the Remote Computer Lab website (this tutorial uses Apple Safari).
- Under the Computer Labs section, select the computer lab you want to access.
- Click the Connect button next to an available computer (icons identify a Windows or Apple/macOS computer).
- A popup window will appear with instructions on how to connect to this lab computer. Click the Download button.
- An .rdp file will download to the Downloads folder on your computer. Open the Finder and navigate to your downloads folder.
- Double click the .rdp file to open it with Microsoft Remote Desktop.
- When prompted enter your Kent State University email address in the in the Username textbox. Make sure to include @kent.edu in the username.
- Enter your Kent State University password in the Password textbox.
- Click the Continue button.
- When prompted to connect click the Continue button.
- You should be logged into the lab computer remotely at this point and see the desktop of the computer lab
