This collection contains materials from 1942-1998 and consists mainly of photographs of faculty, staff, and alumni, files for the 85 Young Alumni Achievement Awards, and interview transcripts of Distinguished Teaching Award recipients. |

History of the Kent State University Alumni Association
The Kent State University Alumni Association promotes continuing dialogue among current students and alumni of Kent State University. The Alumni Association provides various programs, awards, services, and special events for its members, and has a number of regional and special interest chapters. Kent State's first president, John McGilvrey, reportedly planned for an Alumni Association even before the campus had been constructed. Through the years, the Alumni Association has often played a prominent role in university academics and athletics. In 1934, it helped draft proposals to transform Kent from a college to a university. In 1967, it helped establish the Distinguished Teaching Awards.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of materials from 1942-1998, the majority of which are from 1989-1997. Files included in the first two series pertain to individual recipients of either the 85 Young Alumni Achievement Award, or the Distinguished Teaching Award. Photographs are of past and current Kent State University staff, faculty, and students, as well as related Kent State organizations, events, and landmarks. Many of the photographs are unidentified.
