Setting up Variables and Codes -- Below
In variable view, click on the Values box of the variable of interest. Click on the small box with 3 dots.
Type the numeric value in the Value box and your character/string value in the Label box. Click Add
Click OK.
SPSS will recognize your numeric values for the purpose of running statistical analyses. However, your results will be in character/string type:
