Abstract: This collection documents the activities and career of Kent State University alum and Athletic Hall of Famer, Leslie P. Hardy. It includes material relating to Hardy's years at Kent State College (1922-1928) as well as photographs, periodical clippings and documents recording his genealogical interests, civic activities and 40-year career as an administrator at the University of Akron.

Biography of Leslie P. Hardy

Leslie Pettitt Hardy (1902-1992) was born in Summit County, Ohio. He attended Kent State College between 1922 and 1928, with periods off during which he worked as a teacher and coach at area schools. While at Kent, Hardy was active in athletics, lettering in basketball, track, and baseball. He served on the staff of both The Kentonian and The Kent Stater and was a Kappa Mu Kappa fraternity member. Hardy also served as president of his graduating class. Hardy went on to an administrative career at the University of Akron, where he worked for 40 years. He was an active member of many area civic and fraternal organizations throughout his life. He served as chairman of KSU's 50th Anniversary Reunion Committee in 1978 and was inducted into the University's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1981.

Scope and Content

This collection documents the activities and career of Kent State University alumus and Athletic Hall of Famer, Leslie P. Hardy. Hardy's papers include biographical information, copies of his public speeches and presentations, papers of membership and citation, periodicals and clippings, genealogical research, photographs and local ephemera such as Akron-area church and school programs. This collection also documents his career at Kent State College (1922-1928) and includes athletic ribbons and letters, photographs, correspondence and copies of some early campus newspapers, as well as later files relating to his 50th class reunion, alumni activities and his induction into Kent State University's Athletic Hall of Fame.
