- DEBUT: "CAPTURE" Video from YouTube or Google Video or convert a PPT presentation
This is FREE "Screen Capture" software that can capture a selected "window", like a YouTube Video or the entire screen, like a PPT presentation and save it as a windows media video file that can be inserted into a PPT presentation, edited in Windows Movie Maker or just played in Windows Media Player.
Warning! Many videos on YouTube are copyrighted and therefore illegal! If you copy them and post them on your own website you may be liable for illegal use of copyrighted materials, lawsuits, fines or even jail.

- The Movie Archive Includes the Prelinger archives and more--an excellent (and free) source for Civil Defense films, Newsreels, etc.
- History Matters  A rich resource on teaching US history that includes helpful guides to "making sense of evidence" and an annotated list of relevant web sites. Created by the Center for History and New Media (George Mason University ) and the American Social History Project.
- Vanderbilt’s Television News Archive " The world's most extensive and complete archive of television news. The collection holds more than 30,000 individual network evening news broadcasts from the major U.S. national broadcast networks: ABC, CBS, NBC.
- Reel American History  Edward Gallagher of Lehigh University created this website as part of the Visible Knowledge Project. It includes student projects comparing "real" and "reel" American history. Interesting examples of student work and good resource for film titles keyed to specific events and time periods.

Be sure to download and install the LAME MP3 encoder from this site - Allows Audacity to export to MP3 files.
You can also download an Audacity "Portable Application" that can be run from your USB Jump Drive or burned to and run from a CD-R. If you use this "portable app" you won't have to worry about running compatible versions since you will be running your own version on whatever computer you're working on.

The SMS now has over 50GB of SonicFire Pro copyright free music available on all of its workstations. Any length music can be created and "mood mapped" to "fit" your story. Ask about it at the SMS Help Desk.
Picture and Graphics Editing Software
- Microsoft Office Picture Manager
Included in Microsoft's Operating System. Basic photo editing including “auto correct”, resize, compress, brightness, contrast, color, crop, rotate and flip, and red eye removal. Change “format” to BMP, JPG, GIF, PING, TIF.
From the Windows START button choose: All Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office Picture Manager
- Microsoft Paint
Included in Microsoft's Operating System. Add text or draw on pictures From the Windows START button choose: All Programs > Accessories > Paint
- Free PDF maker
Create PDFs from Word, Excel, Pictures or any application that allows you to "print". Just choose Print then select the PDF printer and a location to save your "printed" PDF document.

MORE PICTURE AND GRAPHICS EDITORS
IMPORTANT: Picture and Graphics Editing can be accomplished easily within Word, Powerpoint or Publiisher by simply using the application’s “Picture Toolbar”. You can also use Powerpoint’s SAVE AS to export “slides” as BMP, JPG, GIF, etc. images with text overlays to insert and use in other applications.
Not free but the best way to create graphics with a multitude of effects. Photoshop can also be used to create interactive roll-over buttons and gif animations for web pages or to create entire web pages. You can download a Trial copy that works for 30 days for free from adobe.com.
- Photoshop CS3 is the professional level software - $289.00
- Photoshop Elements is a lower cost alternative with many of CS2’s functions - $63.00
- Available in the Student Multimedia Studio and in select labs on campus
Open Canvas (OC): A "free" alternative to Photoshop

You should download the "original version" if you want the completely free software. The updated "limited" use software runs as a "trial" so you might as well get the real Photoshop software from Adobe.
