Map Library - Student Employment Positions

Map LibraryDo you have an architecture, geography, geology or library background? Are you interested in special libraries?  Do you enjoy using the latest technology to search for information? If so, you should consider the following employment opportunity at the Map Library. The Map Library provides flat maps, gazetteers and atlases in paper and electronic format to support classes and research. It is located in Room 410, McGilvrey Hall. The Library is open Monday-Friday 1-5pm.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work 12 hours per week during 1-5pm
  • Ability to work during intercessions preferred
  • Depending on the needs of the library, experience in reference, circulation, bibliographic instruction, various technical service activities, and special projects
  • Circulate materials to and from the Map Library
  • Assist library users with reference questions using computers, CD-ROM, and Internet resources
  • Retrieve and file classed maps
  • Scan maps and atlases to produce graphic files for Library users
  • Encapsulate older brittle maps and prepare acid free map folders
  • Collect materials and processes for distribution
  • Use word processing program to create lists
  • Assist patrons as needed with reference/circulation of materials
  • May be responsible for opening/closing library
  • Assist librarian as needed with various tasks

  • Pays attention to details and instructions
  • Follows library policies
  • Ability to reach and lift heavy items
  • Must be able to use a computer
