Primary Source Materials - Juvenile Collection - 9th floor

The children's and young adult books are shelved according to Library of Congress call numbers in a separate collection on the ninth floor of the library at the far end of the stacks to the left of the stairwell exit. The location "Juv Coll" above or beside the call number indicates books shelved in the Juvenile Collection.

Secondary Source Materials

Secondary source materials written about children's and young adult literature are found in books and articles addressed to teachers, students, librarians, and parents. These materials can be located by using KentLINK and OhioLINK, periodical indexes, and other bibliographic sources listed in this guide.

KentLINK

The library's online catalog, KentLINK, enables users to locate materials by author, title, word and subject. A word search is more comprehensive than a subject search because it searches the title, subject, and note fields. Try a word search for poetry and short story titles that might be in collected works. Examples are:

Author search: cleary beverly (last name followed by first name or first initial)

Title search: secret garden (do not include the words "a," "an," or "the" at the beginning of a title)

Keyword search: censorship and juvenile literature ("juvenile literature" is used for both children's and young adult literature)

Subject search: children's literature-history and criticism (Consult the multivolume Library of Congress Subject Headings (Ref Desk Coll qZ695.L695) located at the reference desk collection on the first floor of the library for appropriate subject headings when doing a subject search)

For further help searching KentLINK, as well as using any of the other sources listed below, please consult a librarian. Print materials reflect Main Library holdings.
