Libraries and Media Services StaffThe Libraries and Media Services staff, Kent Campus, includes professional librarians, contract employees, and civil service staff. LMS Librarians have faculty status and have requirements for reappointment, tenure, and promotion that are similar to those of faculty in other departments. However, librarians work a scheduled 40-hour work week, some for twelve months per year, making for a professional environment that differs from their colleagues in other departments. This is further described in the "Professional Culture of Libraries and Media Services Faculty at Kent State University" document. There are several civil service classifications in use in the Libraries and Media Services. Four are specific to the library environment: library assistant, senior library assistant, library associate, and senior library associate. Contract positions are used for several managerial jobs as well as for computer related technical positions. Media Services is composed of two areas: Teleproductions and Audio Visual Services. Each of these departments provide professional and quality customer service to the campus community as well as the Kent community: photocopying and design, professional graphics, copyright services, video production, and CD/DVD duplication. Additionally, Libraries and Media Services is highly reliant on student employees to maintain libraries and support services. During a given semester, approximately 200 students are employed in our organization, totaling over 70,000 hours in a fiscal year. |
